Satch Hoyt is a musician, visual artist and researcher in musicology. He explores the various networks related to sound borrowed by the African diaspora. It is through research, narrative and imagination that Hoyt deepens the missing links to map immaterial aesthetics and black identities. His music pursues an aesthetic of resistance to the classical and historical format of so-called black music.
Like Joseph Beuys, Hoyt finds through the different materials used to produce his works an aesthetic circularity. His works are often accompanied by sound texts. Here, we find materials such as drum sticks, burnt electric guitars and vinyl records to create architectures of sound.
In the field of music, Hoyt hasworked with master percussionist Stomu Yamashta and played the flute on Louise Bourgeois' 'OTTE'. He is a flutist and percussionist in the Burt Sugar formation of the The Arkestra Chamber. He has also collaborated with Grace Jones and has participated in many recordings for movies and live shows. He lives and works in Berlin.
