Sky Hopinka is a member of the Ho-Chunk nation and a descendant of the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Native American. He employs video to question the notion of ‘homeland’ and indigenous culture, as well as language and landscape as embodiments of this culture. In 'Dislocation Blues' the artist focuses on two narratives – one by Cleo Keahna, the other by Terry Running Wild – concerning protests at Standing Rock, in the United States. Here, beginning in spring 2016, thousands of mainly indigenous people demonstrated against the construction of an oil pipeline and camped on the work site.
