Lin Chi-Wei’s Tape Music was first conceived in 2004 and has since been performed in many countries and contexts. These interactive performances mimic the mechanical reading process of magnetic tape and play out long scrolls of musical scores. Through impromptu collaboration, an elaborate choir is orchestrated by participants using their voice and spontaneous performance. Albeit without a conductor or any rehearsals, a temporary community forms with each session. For Cosmopolis #2, Lin will present a program of performances, in which scores of different forms are translated into human sound and activity. With the instruments of the voice and human improvisation, the artist points to culturally inflected forms of group intelligence.
On Sundays from 4.30pm to 6.00pm, until 14 December, Lin Chi-Wei presents collaborative performances Tape Music, Calligraphy and Talking Knots.
