In her documentary films and installations, Clarisse Hahn sheds light on social norms and codes. Her series Natur – Invented Eden presents tropical plants photographed in Panama alongside scenes in which tattooed men’s bodies present different publications: a Tarzan comic, a photographic essay on the Tasaday (an invented ‘Stone Age’ Filipino tribe), Kraftgymnastik (1935) by Hans Suren with its Aryan athletic bodies, and a Jehovah Witnesses’ Bible in Tzotzil, the language spoken by indigenous communities in Chiapas.
